This is a great book for anyone interested in learning the TRUTH about Hypnosis and anyone who is interested in learning the techniques involved in becoming a skilled Hypnotist. Michael White has put this information in an easy to follow book that's not dry to the reader and easy to understand.
What an excellent introduction to hypnosis. From the layman
who wants to use hypnosis to improve their life, to the
aspiring hypnotherapist who wants a fundamental grounding in
the principles of hypnosis, there's something for everyone
here.
Mike even goes as far as to provide resources (a hypnotist
providing resources, imagine that!) for sports hypnosis,
stage hypnosis (even provides an outline for a show), and
a couple fundamental hypnosis induction scripts.
It's an entire hypnosis framework in a book. Thanks Mike!
I highly suggest picking up this book if you have any
interest in the amazing field of hypnosis.
I am a student of Michael White here in Houston Texas. This is pretty used ast the textbook for beginning hypnosis in our group. It is written very clearly and the concepts are easy to understand.
If you are interested in hypnosis this is the book for you to start with.
This book contains a lot of very good work. It removes the hype and tells what hypnosis really is and is not. It explains in normal language how hypnosis works in the mind. It does this at a level that both the experienced hypnotist and the newly learning hypnotist have something to gain. As an experienced hypnotist I can read a lot of material to try and get even a little bit of information that is useful to me. This book was able to surpass my expectations in that regard.
This is a great book for the new learning hypnotist. This book has what you need to get started. It removes all the hype and takes you straight to what hypnosis is and how it works. If you study this book and follow the processes outlined here you will be able to place people in hypnosis with just a little practice. Once you master the trance work you can begin to understand how people respond to you. Learning how the different types of language you use affects the subject. Then you will be ready to use the therapy methods described in the book. I can guarantee you most of the experienced hypnotist today have spent a lot of time and money to get the knowledge this book offers. We also had to filter through a large amount of hype as well.
I would easily recommend this book to anyone I know that is looking to learn or improve their hypnosis skills.
In writing this review, I have to begin with a disclaimer I was graciously given an advance copy by the author, who I met at an Igor Ledóchowski seminar in 2010. Happily, this allowed me the opportunity, both in the seminar and after class, to see Michael in action.
Michael is a very good hypnotist with solid technical skills. But what impressed me the most, especially while he was giving an informal demonstration of stage hypnosis (in conjunction with Rodney Pattison), is what Igor L calls "H+"- his hypnotic intent. He is not one to get a cheap laugh at the expense of another person, which I find commendable. He strives to entertain and inform, while also helping the subject, without being negative or malicious. This is equally true of his sessions (some of which can be seen on YouTube) and here in his book.
Forgive this intro. I merely wanted to make it clear that I am acquainted with the author, am in no way beholden to him, but do find him a person who can be trusted and learned from.
So away we go. I titled my review "solid entry level primer on hypnosis" for good reason. This book is not going to change the entire world of hypnosis- the material here is good, solid, accurate information presented in an accessible way by a good teacher- but it will not turn the hypnosis world on its proverbial ear.
What this book does is give people who have little or no knowledge or experience with hypnotism a solid grounding of the information that they *need* to know, and much of what they *ought to* know. Hypnosis is not magic or dangerous in any way (at least if it's done properly); and if someone picks this book up, reads it, and proceeds to hypnotize their friend, I'm confident that the experience will be successful and positive for both parties.
He begins with a brief discussion of how the mind works, consciously and unconsciously; and a discussion of Influence and "Mind Control". Again, it's probably not going to impress a brain surgeon or cultural anthropologist, but those of us who haven't gone down those paths will certainly benefit. He discusses the history of hypnosis, how to do inductions (with examples of popular and simple inductions), and the entire hypnotic process, including deepeners, how to perform change work, and exductions.
I am confident as a hypnotist in saying that this manual is all one really needs to begin hypnotizing others. The information is presented in a casual, friendly, not overly technical manner; which makes it a quick, easy, and informative read.
I highly recommend it for anyone who wishes to learn how to hypnotize for fun or profit, and wish that I had been able to find a book of this caliber when I first was wanting to learn. And I thank the author for giving me the opportunity to read it!
